S 580 Rolfhartge designer

Unveiled on 29 January 2026, the facelifted S-Class receives the most extensive revision of the W223 generation: around 2,700 parts updated, grille enlarged by 20% with four slats and illuminated for the first time on an S-Class, Digital Light headlights with double star, MBUX with Superscreen combining the 14.4-inch central display and the 12.3-inch passenger display under a single glass panel. The S 580 4MATIC tops the V8 range, above the S 500 and its 449 hp.

The 4.0 biturbo becomes the M177 Evo: flat-plane crankshaft, two balance shafts, redesigned intake and exhaust flow. It delivers 395 kW (537 hp) from 5,500 to 6,100 rpm and 750 Nm from 2,500 to 4,500 rpm, compared to 700 Nm previously. 48 V starter-alternator with 23 hp and 205 Nm, 9G-TRONIC gearbox, 4MATIC, 0-100 km/h in 4.0 s, 250 km/h, 241 g/km CO2. The flat-plane crankshaft changes the firing order, thus the gas scavenging and engine note.

The Rolfhartge Edition tuning is based on the AMG Line exterior: flow forged Number ONE grey wheels, 9x21 ET 33 with 255/35 ZR21 at the front, 10x21 ET 52 with 285/30 ZR21 at the rear, carbon wing vents with RHR emblem, carbon mirror caps, boot spoiler and steering wheel insert, Rolfhartge emblems on grille, bonnet, boot and wings, anthracite Luxury High Pile mats, SURFACE+ protection and AELUS purifier with HEPA H13 filter.

The Rolfhartge tuning is a styling signature (forged ONE 21-inch wheels, grille, winglet inserts on the front bumper, rear diffuser, emblems and interior finishes): the mechanics and performance remain those of the standard S 580 4MATIC.

The penalty is calculated according to the scale of the year of first registration, including foreign registration, not the year of purchase. For 2026, the CO2 component starts at 108 g/km and is capped at 80,000 euros from 192 g/km: at 241 g/km, this S 580 is immediately subject to the cap, and the capping under article L. 421-74 reduces the weight-based tax to zero, as the CO2 component is never reduced. An age-related discount applies in monthly increments, 3% in the first quarter, and this also lowers the cap.

For wheels of a different size from the original, German regulations distinguish the ABE, which exempts from individual inspection, and the Teilegutachten, which requires inspection by an approved body and registration. This document specifies the permitted wheel and tyre combinations: it determines the load and speed ratings to be observed for 2,250 kg in running order and 250 km/h.
