The W465 generation, launched in 2024, is the most extensive overhaul of the G since 2018. Beneath a deliberately unchanged silhouette: 48 V network, aerodynamic cladding on the A-pillars, roof edge spoiler, improved soundproofing, latest MBUX and off-road cockpit displaying artificial horizon, altitude and tyre pressures. The G 63 tops the combustion range, above the 449 hp G 500 and the 367 hp G 450 d.
The hand-assembled AMG M177 4.0 V8 biturbo develops 430 kW (585 hp) at 6,000 rpm and 850 Nm from 2,500 to 3,500 rpm; the 48 V starter-alternator adds 20 hp and 200 Nm on acceleration. AMG Speedshift TCT 9-speed gearbox, permanent 4MATIC with 40/60 split, 2,565 kg unladen, 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 s, 220 km/h as standard and 240 km/h with the AMG Driver's Package, 335 g/km of CO2.
What sets the G 63 apart is what it hasn't abandoned: ladder frame chassis, rigid rear axle, three direct-acting differential locks rather than traction control, low range of 2.93 compared to 2.1 before 2018, can be engaged up to 40 km/h. This results in 241 mm ground clearance, 700 mm wading depth, 31 degrees approach, 30 departure, 26 breakover and 45 degrees maximum climb. The G 63 is also the version that receives AMG Active Ride Control, hydraulic interconnected dampers that control roll without limiting wheel travel.
The G 63 W465 has been produced in series since 2024, with no limited edition or numbering.
On a G 63, the difference between two examples comes more from factory options than mileage: AMG Active Ride Control hydraulic dampers, Manufaktur finishes, night and carbon packs, seats with functions, AMG Driver's Package that unlocks 240 km/h. The Datenkarte, a record of the codes fitted at the factory, lists them all: this is the document to read to compare two cars line by line.
Plan for the registration cost before negotiating the price. The scale used is that of the year of first registration, including foreign registration. At 335 g/km, the CO2 component reaches the ceiling of its scale regardless of the year: 80,000 euros from 192 g/km for 2026. The capping of article L. 421-74 reduces the weight tax to zero, and a discount by month reduces the total, by 3% in the first quarter. Finally, in use: the large wheels and low-profile tyres fitted to the G 63 in practice limit the off-roading that the chassis still allows.
