We work out the French registration taxes and the CO2 penalty (malus) for this vehicle and give them to you before any commitment. On a recent, powerful vehicle they can exceed €70,000.
The 2025 G 63 belongs to the W465 generation, redesigned in 2024. Unchanged silhouette, intact foundation: ladder frame chassis, rigid rear axle, permanent 4MATIC with three direct-locking differentials, low range of 2.93 engageable up to 40 km/h. The redesign brought the 48 V network, aerodynamic trim on the A-pillars, improved soundproofing, the latest MBUX, and the off-road cockpit.
The AMG M177 4.0 biturbo V8, hand-assembled, develops 430 kW (585 hp) at 6,000 rpm and 850 Nm from 2,500 to 3,500 rpm, with the 48 V starter-alternator adding 20 hp and 200 Nm on acceleration. AMG Speedshift TCT 9-speed gearbox, 40/60 split. In unprotected specification, the G 63 weighs 2,565 kg unladen, does 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 s and tops out at 220 km/h.
The INKAS armouring meets CEN 1063 BR6 level: the standard defines three impacts of 7.62 x 51 NATO with lead core, 9.5 g at 830 m/s. The protection is 360-degree perimeter, with large ballistic steel plates: doors, pillars, firewall, roof and floor, the latter withstanding the simultaneous detonation of two DM51 grenades. Door joint overlaps, multi-layer glazing with original curvature, tank recessed in laser-cut steel, battery and ECUs in an armoured box, polycarbonate wheel inserts for 50 km at 50 km/h with a punctured tyre.
The G 63 W465 has been mass-produced since 2024; armoured conversions are carried out individually, outside the Mercedes production line.
INKAS armouring, 360-degree ballistic protection to CEN 1063 BR6: the weight, 0 to 100 km/h time and top speed shown are those of the standard model and do not take the armouring into account.
The first thing to check on a protected vehicle is section F.2 of the carte grise (French registration certificate). The category B licence covers up to 3,500 kg gross vehicle weight; above that, article R221-4 of the French Highway Code refers to the C1 licence. A ballistic conversion adds several hundred kilos and this weight is revised at inspection: this issue is settled before purchase.
Two further usage points. Multi-layer glazing is heavy: on this type of conversion, very few windows remain operable, usually only the driver's, and window regulators become wear parts. Brakes and tyres follow the same logic, with the load index needing to match the actual weight. Finally, as the armouring is not factory-fitted, its maintenance and warranty are the responsibility of the armouring company: identify the European workshop that will service it before you need it.
