We work out the French registration taxes and the CO2 penalty (malus) for this vehicle and give them to you before any commitment. On a recent, powerful vehicle they can exceed €70,000.
The Defender 130 is the longest body in the L663 range: 5,358 mm compared to 5,018 mm for the 110, with the same 3,022 mm wheelbase, all the extra length being added to the rear overhang. It is the only variant offered with eight seats, in a 3-3-2 configuration, with 389 litres of boot space with all three rows in place. This usable length explains why armouring specialists prefer the 130 over the 110.
The 130 is fitted with the 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine with 48 V mild hybridisation, D300 in diesel and P400 in petrol with 400 hp, as well as the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 P500 depending on the market. Eight-speed automatic gearbox, permanent all-wheel drive and air suspension: the low-end torque and the permissible load on the rear axle determine the handling once the protection is installed.
INKAS armouring to CEN 1063 BR6 level: stops 7.62 x 51 NATO lead core rounds fired at 830 m/s, 360-degree ballistic steel around the cabin, overlapping doors to treat the joints, roof, floor, pillars and rear bulkhead treated, tank, battery and ECUs protected, multi-layer glazing matching the curvature of the original parts. The structure withstands two DM51 grenades detonated simultaneously under the vehicle, and the run-flat tyres allow 50 km at 50 km/h after puncture.
The Defender 130 has been produced since 2022 alongside the 90 and 110; it is the only body in the L663 range offered with eight seats, and the armoured versions are assembled individually.
The Defender 130 is offered in D300 diesel, P400 petrol and V8 P500; as the title does not specify, the engine data, weight and performance given are those of the standard P400 petrol (3.0-litre inline six, 400 hp, eight seats), to be confirmed on the carte grise (French registration certificate) of the vehicle. The INKAS armouring, at CEN 1063 BR6 level from this converter, significantly increases the vehicle's weight and reduces both weight and performance compared to these standard values. The boot volume of 290 l is the manufacturer's value measured behind the third row, unrelated to ground clearance.
BR6 armouring adds several hundred kilos, with two concrete effects. Beyond 3,500 kg GVWR, driving requires a C1 licence and not a B licence. And the remaining payload limits the number of occupants that can actually be carried, which matters on a body designed for eight. On this type of conversion, the windows are most often fixed or have limited travel: a constraint to consider for daily use.
The level is supported by a nominative certificate linked to the serial number, which states the standard and its version and serves as a reference for the insurer. On the tax side, the French tax on kerb weight, due from 1,500 kg, is based on the value entered in the documents of the converted vehicle, not on that of the standard model.
